Shopping Tip: Don’t Buy British DVD’s – They Probably Won’t Work at Home

Don’t Buy British DVD’s – DVD’s are region coded and in a different video format than US TV sets. While most DVD players can convert the video format, you won’t be able to play them in America unless you’ve purchased a ‘region free’ DVD player. CD’s are OK to buy.

Most new Bluray DVD’s are not region coded but this varies by manufacturer – so it’s better to not take the risk unless you own a Region Free DVD player.

Some souvenir shops will sell region free DVD’s aimed at Tourists – it’s OK to buy these but double check the packaging. If not – save you’re money and buy the same DVD when you get home.
