Always Use a Licensed Taxi – Not Just in London

Wherever you are in Britain and need to use a Taxi service – always use a licensed taxi service. Never use a mini-cab or other unlicensed service.

It’s a safety issue and a cost issue.

Licensed taxi services have to give you the best fare to your destination and they’re heavily regulated because of this. They also have to be trained on their local area to know where everything is (in London they call this ‘the knowledge’).

Mini-cabs and other unlicensed cabs aren’t held to the same standards and they can charge whatever fares they want. It’s also very unsafe to ride in an unlicensed taxi.

So, always be on the lookout for a licensed cab – in major cities this will be obvious. In smaller towns you might have to ask but your safety and pocketbook are worth asking.
